The words of this song were written by Bro. Stuart McArthur shortly after joining the lodge, and there is rarely a Tower harmony goes by without this song been sung. It goes to the tune of "Little Old Wine Drinker Me".
Well I'm Praying for the bar to open quickly
After a night's work full of tools and grips and signs
And I'm sitting in a lodge room down in Knightswood
We're at the harmony, I've got some drinking on my mind
We'll ask the man behind the bar for a lager
Because the brethren need a pint after a degree
So from labour to refreshment
It's harmony time with the brethren of
Lodge Tower 1523.
Well, brother George sorts out who'll be singing
while the raffle boys ask everyone to dig deep
And Jim Easton goes round with the Bonus Ball
Who ever said a night at Tower won't be cheap
We'll ask the man behind the bar for a lager
Because the brethren need a pint after a degree
So from labour to refreshment
It's harmony time with the brethren of
Lodge Tower 1523.
The words of the original Tower song were penned by Bro. William Crosthwaite P.M. who was our Master in 1968-69 to the tune of “The Davie Crockett Song”, a popular song from a television series in the 60’s. It is usually sung at our Annual Installation, and was sung at the 50th Anniversary Dinner.
BORN ON THE HILL IN AIRGOLD SCHOOL
IT WASN’T LONG TILL OUR MEETINGS WERE FULL;
WE SCRIMPED AND WE SAVED TILL WE BOUGHT A HALL:
WE’RE ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL
CHORUS:-
TOWER GOOD OLD TOWER
TOWER IS THE LODGE FOR ME,
TOWER GOOD OLD TOWER
NUMBER FIFTEEN TWENTY THREE
WHEN THE LODGE IS OPENED THE MASTER’S IN HIS CHAIR
THEN WE ALL STAND WHILE THE CHAPLAIN SAYS PRAYER;
AND WHEN WE’RE ALL SEATED AND THERE IS NO DIN,
WE LISTEN TO THE MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
CHORUS:-
WHEN THE CANDIDATES ARE READY AND WE BRING THEM IN;
OUR DEACONS SEE THEM SAFELY THROUGH THICK AND THIN
AND WHEN OUR WORK IS OVER, THEY HAVE A SURPRISE;
TO FIND THEY ARE NOT THE OWNERS OF TWO BLACK EYES.
CHORUS:-
WE THEN CLOSE THE MEETING, AND UNTYLE THE DOOR;
WE HAVE A CUP OF TEA AND THE MASTER TAKES THE FLOOR,
WE’VE HAD A GOOD MEETING IN THAT WE ALL AGREE,
SO, WORSHIPFUL JUNIOR WARDEN HAVE YOU ANY HARMONY
CHORUS:-
